Dr. Papia Raj is an accomplished academician and researcher with extensive experience in the field of geography and public health. She holds a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) from McGill University, Canada, specializing in geography, along with a Master of Philosophy (M.Phil.) in Population Studies from Jawaharlal Nehru University, India. Dr. Raj’s academic journey began with a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Geography (Hons) from Loreto College, University of Calcutta, India, followed by a Master of Arts (M.A.) from the Centre for the Study of Regional Development, Jawaharlal Nehru University.

Throughout her career, Dr. Raj has held various academic and research positions, including roles as an Associate Professor and Assistant Professor at the Indian Institute of Technology Patna. She has also contributed significantly as a Research Associate at the Public Health Foundation of India and as a faculty member at the Central University of Bihar.  Professional Experience:

Dr. Papia Raj has amassed a wealth of professional experience across various academic and research roles. She currently serves as an Associate Professor at the Indian Institute of Technology Patna, India, where she has been actively engaged in teaching and research since December 2019. Prior to this, she held the position of Assistant Professor at the same institution from 2013 to November 2019. Dr. Raj has also worked as a Research Associate at the Public Health Foundation of India in Patna from 2011 to June 2013, contributing her expertise to public health research initiatives. Her academic journey includes a faculty position at the Central University of Bihar, Centre for Development Studies in Patna from 2010 to 2011, where she played a pivotal role in academic and research activities. Additionally, Dr. Raj has gained international exposure through her role as a Post-doctoral Fellow with the Youth Sexual Health Team at the University of British Columbia, Canada, from 2009 to 2010. Earlier in her career, she served as a Research and Teaching Assistant in the Department of Geography at McGill University, Canada, from 2006 to 2008, honing her research skills and contributing to academic endeavors. Through her diverse professional experiences, Dr. Raj has demonstrated her commitment to academia, research, and the advancement of knowledge in her field.

Dr. Papia Raj’s research interests span a diverse array of interdisciplinary topics, primarily focusing on population studies, public health, social research design, gender and development, healthcare management, globalization and social change, transgender health, waste management, call center employment, and educational interventions for development. Within population studies, she delves into the analysis of population dynamics, demographic transitions, and the health and social implications of population changes. In the realm of public health, her research includes epidemiological studies, health interventions, policies, and healthcare management strategies. Dr. Raj is also deeply engaged in social research design and practice, encompassing both quantitative and qualitative methodologies, as well as survey design and analysis. Moreover, her interests extend to gender and development, examining gender disparities in health and education, women empowerment, and gender-sensitive development policies. She investigates the impact of globalization on societies, including social, economic, and cultural transformations, alongside issues of inequality and social justice. Furthermore, she explores transgender health, waste management and healthcare, call center employment, and educational interventions for development, contributing to a holistic understanding of pressing societal challenges and potential avenues for positive change.
