Prof. Rahmat-Allah Hooshmand is a distinguished Professor in the Department of Electrical & Electronic Engineering at the University of Isfahan, Iran. He earned his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Tarbyat-Modarres University in 1995 with a dissertation focused on optimal load shedding and generation reallocation using crisp and fuzzy linear programming. He also holds an M.Sc. in Power Engineering from Tehran University and a B.Sc. in Power Engineering from Mashhad University. Prof. Hooshmand has held various academic positions, beginning as an Assistant Professor at Shahid Chamran University in 1996. He joined the University of Isfahan in 2004, where he progressed from Assistant Professor to Associate Professor, and has been a full Professor since 2011. He teaches a wide range of courses, including Power System Analysis, High Voltage Engineering, and Power System Reliability. An active researcher, Prof. Hooshmand’s interests include power system operation and control, restructuring and deregulation, reliability, and the application of intelligent systems in power systems. He has supervised over 60 senior projects and 50 Master’s and Ph.D. theses. His contributions to both academia and the field of electrical engineering have established him as a prominent figure in his discipline.

Education:

Prof. Rahmat-Allah Hooshmand holds a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the Department of Electrical Engineering, Tarbyat-Modarres University, earned in February 1995. His dissertation, titled “Optimal Load Shedding and Generation Reallocation in Power Systems using Crisp and Fuzzy Linear Programming,” was supervised by Prof. Hosein Seifi and Prof. V. Tahani. He also holds an M.Sc. in Power Engineering from Tehran University, obtained in September 1991, where he focused on “Identification of Coherent Generators in Power Systems of IRI” under the supervision of Dr. Mohsen Parsa Moghaddam. Prof. Hooshmand completed his B.Sc. in Power Engineering at Mashhad University in September 1989.

Professional Experience:

Prof. Rahmat-Allah Hooshmand has extensive professional experience in the field of electrical engineering. He began his academic career as an Assistant Professor in Power Systems at the Department of Electrical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Shahid Chamran University, Ahvaz, from May 1996 to September 2004. He then joined the Department of Electrical & Electronic Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, University of Isfahan, Isfahan, where he continued to serve as an Assistant Professor until 2006. From 2006 to 2011, he was an Associate Professor at the same institution. Since September 2011, Prof. Hooshmand has been a full Professor in Power Systems at the University of Isfahan. Throughout his tenure, he has taught a wide array of courses at both undergraduate and graduate levels, supervised numerous senior projects, Master’s theses, and Ph.D. dissertations, and actively contributed to research in power system operation, control, restructuring, reliability, and high-voltage engineering.

Prof. Hooshmand’s research interests are diverse and impactful, covering Power System Operation and Control, Power System Restructuring and Deregulation, Power System Reliability, Intelligent Systems in Power Systems, and High-Voltage Engineering. He has made significant contributions to these fields through his research, teaching, and supervision, solidifying his reputation as a leading expert in electrical engineering.
