Dr. Miral Sabry Al-Ashry, Ph.D., is a distinguished academic and scholar in the field of media studies and journalism. She has been recognized for her outstanding contributions to social sciences, particularly through her groundbreaking research on women’s issues. In 2023, she received the prestigious Egyptian State Prize from the Academy of Scientific Research and the Egyptian Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research.

Dr. Al-Ashry currently holds two prominent positions in academia. Since March 2023, she has been serving as a Professor and co-lead for the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) at the Centre for Freedom of the Media within the Department of Journalism Studies at the University of Sheffield. Additionally, she is a Professor at the Journalism and Mass Communication Department of the School of Global Affairs and Public Policy (GAPP) at The American University in Cairo, where she began her tenure in September 2023. Research Interests

Prof. Miral Sabry AlAshry’s research interests revolve around multidisciplinary areas that address pressing societal challenges. She is particularly focused on issues related to gender-based violence, media and journalism ethics, digital security, and the socio-economic impacts of public health crises such as the COVID-19 pandemic. Through her research, Prof. AlAshry aims to shed light on the experiences of marginalized groups, including women journalists facing gender-based violence in conflict zones. Additionally, she investigates the role of media in shaping public perceptions and behaviors, with a keen interest in promoting ethical journalism practices and enhancing digital security awareness. Her work also delves into the intersection of tourism, youth perceptions, and coping behaviors during times of crisis, contributing valuable insights to the fields of tourism studies and public health.
