Assoc. Prof. Dr. Siraj Mammo Yimer earned his Ph.D. in Soil and Water Conservation from Beijing Forestry University, China, in 2017. Prior to that, he completed his Master of Science in Forestry from Addis Ababa University, Ethiopia, in 2006.
Professional Experience:
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Siraj Mammo Yimer is an esteemed faculty member at Ambo University, Ethiopia, where he serves as an Associate Professor of Natural Resource Management in the Department of Biology. He is responsible for instructing and advising MSc students in Botanical Sciences, Nature Conservation and Biodiversity, Biology, and Environmental Sciences. Dr. Siraj Mammo has supervised over 40 MSc theses and is currently overseeing the completion of three PhD dissertations. His extensive research and teaching experience span various fields of biology and natural resource management, including biodiversity conservation and management, plant ecology, systematics and plant taxonomy, soil fertility and plant nutrition, plant ecophysiology, land degradation and rehabilitation, restoration ecology, and ethnobotany. Dr. Siraj Mammo has conducted multidisciplinary and innovative research, designed and implemented projects, secured grants, served as an editor and reviewer for high-impact journals, and collaborated with academics from Asia, Africa, and America. Dr. Siraj Mammo Yimer’s research interests encompass a wide range of topics within biology and natural resource management. He is particularly focused on biodiversity conservation and management, plant ecology, systematics, and plant taxonomy. Additionally, his interests extend to soil fertility and plant nutrition, plant ecophysiology, and land degradation and rehabilitation. He is also deeply involved in research on restoration ecology, ethnobotany, forestry, climate change, watershed management, land use, and land cover change, as well as ecosystem services valuation. Furthermore, Dr. Mammo is actively engaged in studying medicinal plants and their conservation. His research endeavors are geared towards addressing environmental challenges, promoting sustainable resource management practices, and contributing to the understanding and conservation of natural ecosystems.
