Korea (1995), and a B.S. from Hanyang University, Seoul, South Korea (1992). His commitment to education dates back to his formative years at Haeundae High School in Busan, S. Korea (1988). 👨🏾‍🎓EDUCATION:

Michael Humbani completed their Graduate Diploma in Marketing at the Institute of Marketing Management (IMM) SA in 1998. They then pursued a BTech in Marketing Management at the University of South Africa, graduating in 1999. In 2011, Michael earned a BCOM (Hons) in Business Management and Marketing Management, also from the University of South Africa. They continued their academic journey with an MCom in Marketing Management at the University of Pretoria, graduating in 2014 from an AACSB-accredited program. Michael completed their academic pursuits with a PhD in Marketing Management from the University of Pretoria in 2018, also from an AACSB-accredited program.

TEACHING EXPERIENCE:

Michael Humbani has accumulated a wealth of teaching experience over the years. Starting as a part-time lecturer at Rosebank College in July 2007, they later joined Monash SA in February 2012, where they lectured until December 2013. In February 2014, Michael began their journey with the University of Pretoria as an e-Tutor at the University of South Africa, a role they continue to date. Their commitment to academia led them to a full-time lecturer position at the University of Pretoria in January 2014, where they contributed until 2018. Currently, Michael holds the position of Senior Lecturer (full time) at the University of Pretoria (AACSB) since January 2019, further solidifying their dedication to the field of education.

RESEARCH ACTIVITIES:

Dr. Michael Humbani’s research activities at the University of Pretoria (AACSB accredited) showcase a strong commitment to advancing knowledge in mobile marketing. Since 2019, Dr. Humbani has supervised over 250 research students at the Honours level, focusing on mobile marketing. Additionally, at the Masters level, Dr. Humbani has supervised several students on various topics related to mobile marketing adoption and consumer behavior. These topics include consumer readiness for mobile payments, behavioral intentions toward mobile game adoption, impediments of mobile payment adoption, and consumer engagement with mobile apps during the COVID-19 pandemic. Dr. Humbani has also co-supervised PhD students, exploring topics such as the role of social proof in consumer decision-making and investigating zero waste behaviors among South African consumers. Their dedication to mentoring and guiding students reflects their passion for research and education in the field of marketing.

AWARDS:

Dr. Michael Humbani has garnered significant recognition for their scholarly contributions and teaching excellence. Their evaluation status as a scientist/scholar includes an H-index of 5, i10-index of 5, and 638 citations as of December 11, 2023. In terms of research awards and prizes, Dr. Humbani received the First Journal Article Publication Award in 2016 from the Faculty of Economic and Management Sciences (EMS) at the University of Pretoria. They were also honored as the Best PhD Student in the Department of Marketing Management in 2018, and received the Academic Honorary Colours Award from the UP Student Representative Council in the same year. Furthermore, Dr. Humbani’s contributions to the field have been recognized with a Track Award in Digital Marketing in 2018 for a paper presented at the Southern African Institute of Management Scientists (SAIMS) Conference. In 2019, they received the Stephan and Viljoen Award for inviting a top international scholar to the Department of Marketing Management at the University of Pretoria. Dr. Humbani is also a recipient of the Golden Key International Honour Society award. In terms of teaching awards and prizes, Dr. Humbani received the Top Lecturer Award in 2009 from the Faculty of Business and Leisure at College Campus, Randburg, South Africa. They were also honored with the Most Inspiring Lecturer Award and Lecturer Appreciation Award at Rosebank College, Pretoria, in 2012. Additionally, Dr. Humbani was nominated for the Best First Year Lecturer Award at the University of Pretoria in 2018.
