Prior to this role, Yanbo Wang served as an Assistant Professor in the same department from September 2019 to August 2022. Their academic journey at Aalborg University began in August 2014 as a Ph.D. Fellow in the Energy Technology Department, a role they completed in June 2017. Following their Ph.D., Yanbo Wang continued their research at Aalborg University as a Postdoctoral Fellow from June 2017 to August 2019. In 2016, they also gained international research experience as a Visiting Researcher at the University of Manitoba/HVDC Research Center in Canada.

Yanbo Wang has an extensive record of editorial board and academic service contributions. They currently serve as an Associate Editor for IET Renewable Power Generation, Frontiers in Electronics, Energies, and Electronics. Additionally, they are a member of the Editorial Board for Modern Power System Protection and Control. Yanbo Wang has also served as a Guest Editor in Chief for special issues in Frontiers in Electronics and Electronics journals. They are a Senior Member of IEEE and have been actively involved in IEEE societies, including Power Electronics and Industrial Electronics. Yanbo Wang has chaired the program for the 7th International Conference on Smart Grid (ICSMARTGRID) in 2019. They have also been invited to speak at conferences, including the 2022 IEEE 5th International Electrical and Energy Conference (CIEEC), and have served as a Section Chairman for the 2022 IEEE ECCE Asia. Furthermore, Yanbo Wang has chaired the Technical Committee for the 3rd International Conference on Advanced Electrical and Energy Systems (AEES) in 2022.
