Mr. Ousman Mohammed, Medical Laboratory Technologist Award, Best Researcher Award

Ousman Mohammed at Wollo University, Ethiopia

Mr. Ousman Mohammed is a dedicated professional in the field of clinical laboratory science with a strong academic background and extensive experience in both clinical practice and academia. He holds a Master of Science degree in Clinical Laboratory Science, with a specialization in Clinical Chemistry, from Addis Ababa University, Ethiopia. His research during his master’s program focused on establishing reference intervals for serum lipid profile and electrolytes in apparently healthy children and adolescents.

Prior to pursuing his master’s degree, Mr. Mohammed completed his Bachelor of Science in Medical Laboratory Sciences at Haramaya University, Ethiopia. His undergraduate thesis investigated the prevalence and associated factors of smear-positive pulmonary tuberculosis among patients visiting a specialized hospital in Harar, Ethiopia.

Research Interest:

Establishment of reference intervals: Studying the normal ranges of laboratory parameters such as serum lipid profile, electrolytes, and other biochemical markers in different demographic groups, including children, adolescents, and adults.

Infectious diseases: Investigating the prevalence, diagnosis, and factors associated with infectious diseases, with a focus on tuberculosis and other communicable diseases prevalent in Ethiopia.

Diagnostic accuracy: Assessing the performance and accuracy of diagnostic tests and laboratory methods in detecting various diseases and conditions.

Quality assurance in medical laboratories: Exploring strategies to ensure the quality, reliability, and accuracy of laboratory testing procedures and results.

Point-of-care testing: Studying the feasibility and effectiveness of point-of-care testing methods for rapid diagnosis and management of diseases, particularly in resource-limited settings.

Laboratory management and education: Researching effective teaching methods, curriculum development, and management practices in medical laboratory education and training programs.
